About Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy offers a supportive space to explore whatever’s troubling you, and to find ways forward.
My approach, based in mindfulness, offers a way of coming to know yourself more fully: discovering your inner creative resources, your deepest needs and wishes, and what gets in the way of them.
It's a journey, in my experience, that's creative and unpredictable. It means both facing discomfort, and opening to beauty and joy. It involves all of us - mind, body and heart - and for some people it also has a spiritual aspect. And it takes the committed presence of someone alongside us who can reflect with us and encourage us.

It's a space for you to talk about whatever feels important to you. I listen, sometimes offering reflections, questions or perhaps a comment for you to consider if you wish. Together, we find approaches that are right for you as an individual. For some people, non-verbal forms of expression like drawing or movement can be helpful, and these are welcome. Mindfulness-based Core Process Psychotherapy often pays attention to sensations and feelings in the body. If you wish, I can suggest some ways of doing this, like mindfulness practices and meditation.

Life's difficulties show up in many forms - like depression or anxiety, relationship difficulties, fatigue, phobias, or addictions. What you're struggling with might have a medical name, like ADHD or PTSD; or it might not - it might be difficult to pin down. Whatever you bring, you are welcome. We can discuss in our first meeting (offered without charge) how psychotherapy or counselling may be able to help, perhaps alongside other sources of support.

Established for over 40 years, Mindfulness-based Core Process Psychotherapy was one of the first approaches to psychotherapy to integrate mindfulness and principles from Buddhism. It brings together Eastern and Western knowledge about wellbeing, healing, and what it is to be human. Within a Core Process framework, the therapist can respond creatively to the needs of each individual client, drawing on a range of approaches.
Core Process works by
meeting difficulty and distress with support and understanding - so you can don't have to hide it or struggle with it alone, and can get to the root of what's causing it.
discovering inner resources - so you can find your own confidence and resilience.
attending to present moment experience in the body (mindfulness) - so you can understand clearly and directly what is happening for you, and how you need to respond.
attending to relationship - so you can see the patterns in your relationships, and how they could be more supportive and fulfilling.
welcoming imagination - as a way to explore your experience more fully, freely and deeply.
